NVIDIA Blackwell AI GPUs are forecasted to spur growth in associated industries, such as TSMC’s CoWoS and HBM DRAM, with the company preparing to ship millions of these chips by 2025.

NVIDIA Blackwell AI GPUs Poised to Fuel Massive Growth in HBM and Chip Packaging Industry, with Large-Scale Shipments Anticipated in 2025

TrendForce’s research indicates that NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell GPUs for AI could become the industry’s next breakthrough due to their superior performance that has attracted numerous major clients. This includes the GB200 SUPERCHIP, which is estimated to comprise 40% to 50% of NVIDIA’s Blackwell supply by 2025. Consequently, millions of Blackwell GPUs are expected to be produced, emulating the success of NVIDIA’s Hopper series.

This significant demand surge implies that supply companies associated with NVIDIA are on track for a prosperous year in market demand. Therefore, companies like TSMC and others will need to expand their existing facilities.

Reports indicate that TSMC’s CoWoS (Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate) capacity is projected to reach up to 40,000 units by the end of 2024, representing a remarkable 150% YoY increase, owing to the massive demand experienced by the Taiwan-based giant. Furthermore, CoWoS technology is essential to other AI products, suggesting that the packaging sector will witness a substantial surge.

In addition to the CoWoS markets, NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPUs are also predicted to propel the HBM sector to unprecedented levels, especially with the impending shift from HBM3 to HBM3e DRAM in mainstream products from NVIDIA and its competitors.

With the launch of NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI GPUs like the GB200, the B200, and the B100, the adoption rate of HBM3e is expected to rise significantly, along with capacity upgrades, which are anticipated to reach up to 192GB and 288GB by the end of 2024.

The emerging AI markets will be distinctly different from the existing ones, not just because of market hype, but also because the revenue stream will be considerably larger this time. This is attributed to the recent mass adoption of genAI and AGI, which have catalyzed growth in both the computing and client sectors.
