Huawei has confirmed that it will launch its homegrown mobile operating system, HarmonyOS Next, by the end of this month. The announcement was made by Chen Xinxin, general manager of HarmonyOS Industry Solutions, at the China International Fair for Trade-In Service in Beijing on Saturday.

    HarmonyOS Next: A Deeper Dive

HarmonyOS, first announced in 2019 in response to US sanctions and the removal of Android services from Huawei devices, has been gradually rolled out across various platforms. The initial version was designed for smart TVs, followed by adaptation to Huawei smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and IoT devices.

HarmonyOS Next, dubbed “Pure Blood,” signifies a significant step towards complete independence from Android. This new version aims to eliminate all Android app libraries from its core source code, resulting in a fully self-developed and autonomous mobile platform.

The development of HarmonyOS Next has been met with enthusiasm from Chinese software and game developers, entertainment publishers, and other industries, who have announced plans to create native HarmonyOS applications.

Beta testing of HarmonyOS Next has already begun on select Huawei flagship smartphones, including the Huawei Pura 70 Pro. Huawei plans to eventually make the new operating system available on all its smartphones, providing users with a closed ecosystem similar to Apple’s iOS.

This move marks a crucial milestone for Huawei’s ambition to establish itself as a major player in the global mobile operating system market. The success of HarmonyOS Next will depend on its ability to attract developers and users, while also ensuring a seamless and feature-rich experience for consumers.
