Fortnite is back on the Google Play Store after more than five years, following a long-running legal battle between Epic Games and Google.
The game was removed in 2020 after Epic added its own in-app payment system, bypassing Google’s billing rules. That move led to a court fight over app store fees and control of transactions on Android.
Losing access to the Play Store cost Epic a large portion of its Android user base, but the company continued to challenge Google’s policies in court.
The case has now led to changes in how the Play Store operates. Google is required to reduce its commission on app transactions from 30% to 20% and allow easier access for third-party app stores and alternative payment options.
With those changes in place, Fortnite is once again available for download worldwide on the Play Store.
The outcome is expected to have wider effects beyond one game, as it opens the door for developers to explore different payment systems and distribution methods on Android.
What You Can Play on Fortnite Mobile (Android)
Fortnite’s mobile version includes several modes players can jump into:
- Battle Royale
- Zero Build
- Fortnite OG
- Blitz Royale
- LEGO Fortnite
- Fortnite Festival
- Developer-made games
- And more
Battle Royale remains the main mode, where players drop in, loot, and fight to be the last one standing as the storm closes in. Zero Build offers a different approach, removing building mechanics and focusing more on movement, positioning, and gunplay, with support for solo and squad matches.

Other modes add more variety, including Blitz Royale for faster matches on smaller maps, along with creative and music-based experiences. Players can also try community-made games and explore new content added over time.
