Nintendo is putting the spotlight on one of its quieter but popular membership perks this month, encouraging players to customize their profiles through the icon maker available on Nintendo Switch Online.

Accessible directly from the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu, the feature lets subscribers create personalized profile icons using a mix of characters, backgrounds, and frames. These elements can be unlocked by redeeming My Nintendo Platinum Points, which are earned through various missions listed under the “Missions & Rewards” section of the app.
The process is straightforward: users browse available missions, collect points, redeem icon elements, and assemble their design through the Icon Collection menu. The result is a fully customized profile image that reflects a player’s style.
For April, Nintendo is adding a themed set of limited-time icon elements based on Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, bringing familiar characters and cosmic-themed designs into the mix. The rollout is split into five waves, each available for a limited window:
- Wave 1: March 31 to April 7
- Wave 2: April 7 to April 14
- Wave 3: April 14 to April 21
- Wave 4: April 21 to April 28
- Wave 5: April 28 to May 5
Each wave introduces a new batch of collectible elements, giving players multiple chances throughout the month to expand their icon options.
The timing aligns with Nintendo’s broader push around the Galaxy series this April. Notably, the company has also introduced a special bundle featuring the two titles. You can read more about that here: Nintendo Launches Limited-Time Bundle Deal for Switch 2 and Super Mario Galaxy Titles.
With rotating rewards and familiar characters returning in themed content, the icon maker continues to serve as an added incentive for Switch Online members to stay engaged beyond gameplay.
