Chinese memory manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is reportedly work toward the next generation of memory technology, with its LPDDR6 chips now said to be in the sampling stage ahead of mass production expected in the second half of 2026.
According to recent reports, CXMT has begun strengthening its supply chain for the DDR6 era by adding Haesung DS as a new packaging substrate supplier. The company is also transitioning from traditional reel-to-reel manufacturing to panel-level packaging, a process expected to better support the complex multi-layer design required by next-generation DDR6 memory.
The upcoming LPDDR6 memory chips are reportedly capable of delivering speeds of up to 12.8 Gbps, marking a significant improvement over current-generation memory. While production could begin in the second half of 2026, broader commercial adoption of DDR6-based devices is still projected to occur between 2028 and 2029.
CXMT has steadily expanded its presence in the global memory market and is currently ranked as the world’s fourth-largest DRAM manufacturer, holding an estimated 7.7% to 8% market share.
The company already supplies memory to several major Chinese technology firms including Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo, with Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud also listed among its customers.
In separate reports, sources claim that Apple is testing CXMT memory chips for potential future use, though there is currently no confirmation that these specific chips have received Apple’s certification or will be officially deployed in upcoming products.
Meanwhile, the rumored Open AI smartphone features a custom chip based on the MediaTek Dimensity 9600, built on TSMC’s N2P node for AI tasks. It will also include next-generation LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage, with mass production targeted for 2027, though these chips will not come from CXMT.
CXMT is getting its LPDDR6 line ready. It will still be a few years before these chips see widespread use, but the company is putting in the work now. When the technology finally takes off, CXMT will be prepared.
