Leak from tipster Digital Chat Station outlines competing flagship visions, matching screen sizes, and high-stakes upgrade push.
A new Weibo post from reputable tipster Digital Chat Station has laid the groundwork for a crowded and competitive September flagship phone season. The post reveals two top manufacturers will launch devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro chipset, and confirms the usual period of chip exclusivity has been canceled entirely. The removal of exclusivity windows has compressed release timelines, setting up a direct head-to-head battle between the two devices in the same launch window.
According to a recent Gizmochina leak, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro moves to TSMC’s enhanced 2 nm-class N2P node, marking Qualcomm’s first flagship chip to advance beyond 3 nm. Despite the denser manufacturing process, the die size grows to roughly 134 mm² from the previous generation’s 126.2 mm². The larger footprint suggests Qualcomm has packed in extra features and greater architectural complexity rather than prioritizing a smaller chip.
As per the tipster’s post, elevated chip costs have been widely anticipated across the industry this year. This pressure has shifted brand strategy toward more distinctive hardware to convince users to upgrade. “Designs with major identity overhauls and high recognizability are generally more attractive for upgrades this cycle,” the tipster wrote, framing the coming clash as a test of two drastically different product development philosophies rather than a raw spec war.
Digital Chat Station outlined the two competing flagship roadmaps as options for followers to weigh:
- Approach A: A device focused on next-generation display and smart imaging, headlined by an AI-powered rear auxiliary screen, a new “Super Pixel” main display panel, and a camera system tuned in partnership with Leica.
- Approach B: A model prioritizing fresh industrial design and all-day endurance, featuring a completely new chassis design, ultra-long battery life, and imaging co-developed with cinema technology brand Arri.
User questions in the post’s comments quickly turned to hardware ergonomics, with one follower asking specifically about the screen size of the rumored Honor flagship. In response, Digital Chat Station confirmed both manufacturers will offer dual screen size options across their lineups.
The options include a compact 6.3-inch variant and a larger 6.8-inch model, with nearly identical panel selections between the two brands. The tipster added a partial note on physical dimensions, listing a measurement of 6.85 that is widely interpreted to refer to the approximate width or diagonal footprint of the larger flagship variant.
As per the tipster’s analysis, the loss of Snapdragon exclusivity removes a key marketing lever brands have historically used to stand out at launch. With both devices sharing the same top-tier processor, competition will instead center on display innovation, imaging partnerships, battery performance, and industrial design. These are factors the tipster notes are increasingly driving upgrade decisions in the saturated premium smartphone market.
Official announcements for both the Xiaomi and Honor September flagships are expected in the coming weeks, with full details set to be shared at each brand’s respective launch events.
