Redmi has officially unveiled the Redmi 17 series on the global stage, expanding its budget-friendly lineup with two new models built for all-day performance and long-lasting battery life. The pair caters to different user needs: one with next-generation 5G connectivity and the other a more affordable 4G option, both packing flagship-level endurance and features rarely seen at their price points.
On paper, both models share nearly identical specifications across the board, with only one key difference under the hood: their processors. The Redmi 17 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, delivering reliable 5G speeds and efficient everyday performance, while the Redmi 17 (4G) runs on the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra, tuned for smooth casual gaming, app multitasking, and better value for users who don’t need 5G connectivity.
Compared to their predecessors, the Redmi 15 4G and Redmi 15 5G, the new series brings a meaningful generational upgrade across nearly every category. The display grows to a larger 6.9-inch panel with a brighter 825-nit peak output, while the battery gets a massive bump to 7,500mAh paired with faster 45W wired charging.
The Redmi 17 also steps up protection with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and an IP64 dust and splash resistance rating, adds dual speakers with a 300% volume boost, and ships with the newer HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. All these improvements represent a clear step up from the older hardware and software of the Redmi 15 line.
