    Here’s what we know

HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the rights to use the Nokia brand on mobile devices, has announced that it will launch its own brand of smartphones, tablets and wearables in the first half of 2024. The new brand will coexist with the Nokia phones and will target the Indian market as a priority.

    Nokia Phones

According to Ravi Kunwar, HMD Global’s Vice President for India and APAC, the new brand will offer a range of products that will cater to different consumer segments and price points. He said that the new brand will focus on creating a comprehensive product ecosystem that will include feature phones, smartphones, tablets and IoT devices. He also added that all the products under the new brand will be manufactured in India and will be exported to other markets as well.

HMD Global has partnered with Foxconn, Dixon and Lava to produce smartphones in India. It also exports feature phones to African markets. The company claims that it is the fastest-growing 5G smartphone manufacturer and a leader in sustainability with its repairable devices.

Jean-Francois Baril, the Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of HMD Global, said that the company is ready for the next step on its journey – to enter the market independently as a force to create a new world for telecommunications focused on consumer needs. He said that the new brand will bring collaborations with new partners that have yet to be revealed.

The new brand will compete with other players in the Indian market, which is one of the largest and fastest-growing smartphone markets in the world. HMD Global hopes to leverage its experience and expertise in designing and delivering Nokia phones to create a successful and distinctive brand identity for its own products.

HMD Global acquired the exclusive rights to use the Nokia brand on mobile devices from Microsoft in 2016 for a period of 10 years. Since then, it has launched several Nokia-branded Android smartphones and feature phones, as well as revived some classic models like the Nokia 3310. The company has also introduced its own services like HMD Connect, HMD Mobile and HMD Care.

The company has not revealed any details about the name, logo or design of its new brand yet. It is expected to unveil more information about its plans and products in the coming months.
