Samsung has announced its latest 50MP ISOCELL GNK sensor, which promises to deliver improved performance in both still photography and video recording. The new sensor is a successor to the popular 50MP ISOCELL GN1, which is widely used by Samsung and other smartphone makers.

The ISOCELL GNK sensor has the same 1/1.3″ size and 1.2µm pixel size as the GN1, but it features some enhancements that make it stand out. For instance, it supports Dual Pixel Pro autofocus, which uses all pixels on the sensor for fast and accurate focusing, even on moving subjects. It also supports Smart-ISO Pro, a technology that combines multiple ISO modes to achieve a dynamic range of up to 120 dB, reducing motion artifacts and noise in high-contrast scenes.

Another notable feature of the ISOCELL GNK sensor is its ability to record 8K videos at 30fps without cropping the field of view. This means that users can capture more details and scenery in their videos, without losing quality or resolution. The sensor also supports HDR video recording and FHD video recording at 240fps for slow-motion effects.

The ISOCELL GNK sensor can also capture 14-bit RAW images in Pro mode, which offer more flexibility and control for post-processing and editing. Samsung claims that the new sensor can produce vivid and realistic colors, thanks to its Dual Tetrapixel RGB Bayer Pattern, which combines four adjacent pixels into one to increase light sensitivity and color fidelity.

Samsung has not revealed which smartphones will use the new ISOCELL GNK sensor first, but it is expected that it will debut in some of the flagship models next year¹. The new sensor is likely to compete with other high-end sensors from Sony and OmniVision, which also offer 50MP resolution and advanced features. Samsung hopes that the ISOCELL GNK sensor will set a new standard for mobile photography and videography, and provide users with a more immersive and enjoyable experience.
