Apple fans, mark your calendars: the tech giant is reportedly planning to unveil a slew of new tablets next year, including two new iPad Pro models with OLED displays. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has a reliable track record when it comes to Apple leaks, the company will launch at least three refreshed iPads in March 2024: the 11th-generation iPad, the 7th-generation iPad mini, and the 6th-generation iPad Air. These devices will feature improved specs, such as a switch to USB-C for the iPad mini and a jump to M2 for the iPad Air. However, don’t expect any major design changes, as Apple seems to be happy with the current form factor of its tablets.
But what about the iPad Pro, you may ask? Well, Gurman says that the premium tablet will not see an update until later in the year, possibly in the spring. The new iPad Pro models, which will come in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, will be the first from Apple to sport OLED screens, which offer better contrast, brightness, and color accuracy than LCD screens. OLED screens are also thinner and more flexible, which could allow for some interesting design possibilities. The new iPad Pro models are also expected to pack the M3 Pro chipset, which will be a tweaked version of the M3 chip that is rumored to debut in the next MacBook Pro. The M3 Pro chip will likely offer more performance and efficiency than the current M1 chip that powers the iPad Pro.
The new iPads will also come with a new Apple Pencil with USB-C charging capabilities, which was announced earlier this month. The new Apple Pencil will replace the first-generation Apple Pencil with Lightning, which will be discontinued as no device will support that connector anymore. The new Apple Pencil will also have some new features, such as gesture control and haptic feedback.
Apple has not officially confirmed any of these rumors, so take them with a grain of salt. However, Gurman has a solid reputation for predicting Apple’s moves, so there is a good chance that he is right. If you are looking for a new iPad, you may want to wait until next year to see what Apple has in store for its tablet lineup.
