Hypergryph will expand the Arknights franchise beyond its tower defense origins with the release of Arknights: Endfield, scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on Jan. 22, the Chinese developer said in a post on X.

At the center are the protagonist (a dark-haired male releasing golden energy) and a prominent female character with dark hair, both in white and dark-accented outfits. Surrounding them are dozens of diverse playable characters, each with unique designs, weapons, and color schemes (blue, pink, red, purple, etc.). The background is white with bold yellow geometric elements, emphasizing action and the game's sci-fi/fantasy theme.

The title, which has been in development for several years, marks a shift for the series into a fully three-dimensional action role-playing game. It is set roughly 150 years after the first settlers arrived on the planet Talos-II, a world largely left unexplored following past catastrophes.

According to a recent report by Wccftech, Arknights: Endfield has surpassed 35 million pre-registrations worldwide, with the number continuing to grow ahead of its official release.

In the game’s setting, small “civilized zones” offer limited protection, while much of Talos-II remains hostile, shaped by environmental disasters and a recurring threat known as the Blight Tide. Rather than focusing solely on survival, the game emphasizes territorial expansion, with players venturing beyond protected areas to establish infrastructure and recover lost regions.

Players build Oripathy-powered engines and automated facilities to support expansion, gradually uncovering the planet’s history. Combat departs sharply from earlier Arknights entries, placing players in real-time battles where they control a squad of up to four Operators. Characters can be switched instantly, while remaining squad members are managed by artificial intelligence.

The combat system is built around stagger mechanics. Standard attacks generate skill points and apply pressure, while targeted abilities deal stagger damage. Once enemies are fully staggered, they become vulnerable to execution attacks, and coordinated positioning allows Operators to chain ultimate abilities across wide areas. Hypergryph said the system is intended to reward timing, coordination and positioning.

Industrial management also plays a central role through the game’s Automated Industry Complex, which handles production and logistics. Players construct automated supply chains that produce equipment, resources and medical materials needed for continued expansion.

To simplify large-scale planning, the game includes a Blueprint system that allows factory layouts to be saved, reused and relocated. These blueprints can be shared, and trade routes between regions connect industrial output with exploration progress.

On PlayStation 5, the game supports DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, as well as 3D audio and PS5 Activities, enabling players to launch directly into specific missions from the console interface.

Hypergryph said the Jan. 22 launch will serve as a starting point, with post-release updates planned to introduce new regions and storylines. One early narrative arc focuses on the disappearance of Supreme Chief Tangtang, a mystery that unfolds as players push further into the uncharted areas of Talos-II.
