The team behind Crimson Desert has issued a public statement addressing concerns over the use of AI-generated assets in the game, after launched in March 19, while also rolling out a series of updates and fixes across multiple platforms.
In a post on X, developer Pearl Abyss confirmed that some 2D visual assets in the game were created using experimental AI tools during early development. According to the studio, these were meant only for initial concept work to help define the game’s tone and atmosphere.
However, the company admitted that some of these assets were mistakenly left in the final release. It acknowledged that this fell short of internal quality standards and also pointed out a lack of transparency in disclosing the use of AI during development.
The studio apologized for the oversight and said it is now conducting a full audit of in-game assets. Any content found to be affected will be replaced in future patches. It also plans to improve internal processes to avoid similar issues and to communicate more clearly with players moving forward.
Alongside the statement, the developers released patch version 1.00.03, which introduces early improvements based on player feedback. This includes the addition of storage at Howling Hill and initial refinements to keyboard and mouse controls. The update is currently available on Steam, with releases for PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store, and Mac to follow.
A separate hotfix, version 1.00.04, has also been deployed for PlayStation. It resolves a bug where players encountered issues performing certain actions after switching to the character Kliff.
Meanwhile, the team confirmed that support for Intel Arc GPUs is still in development. The studio said it is working on compatibility and optimization to ensure stable performance on those systems, though no release date has been shared. It also clarified earlier confusion caused by outdated FAQ information regarding Intel Arc support.
More updates are expected as the developers continue refining the experience, as Crimson Desert is priced at around $69.99 and is available on PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam, with the game already surpassing over 2 million copies sold within its first 24 hours and still counting.
