The team behind the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy has reassured fans that the third and final installment will keep its high visual standards intact, even with plans for a broad release across multiple consoles and PC.
In a recent interview with Japanese outlet Automaton, director Naoki Hamaguchi directly addressed community concerns. With the finale expected to appear on a range of hardware from powerful PCs to lower-spec systems like the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series S, some fans worried the graphics that defined Remake and Rebirth would suffer to support weaker devices.
Hamaguchi firmly rejected that notion. He explained that development begins with the highest-end hardware as the target. PC is the lead platform and the internal reference for peak quality. Assets are built for top-tier specifications first, then optimized downward for other systems. This method allows high-end PCs to run textures and polygon counts 1.5 to three times higher than consoles while keeping the intended visual fidelity on PlayStation 5 and similar platforms.
Platforms are grouped by performance levels inside the studio. PC stands at the top tier. PS5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro sit in the mid-range and get specific tuning. Weaker hardware like Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam Deck is handled separately so their constraints never limit the overall design.
The same tiered approach applies to frame rates. The goal is 60 frames per second on stronger systems. If the Switch 2 or Series S runs at 30fps, the gameplay systems and content remain the same. The team instead adjusts crowd density, for example fewer NPCs in busy areas, to reduce CPU demands.
Memory and storage issues are managed individually. Hamaguchi pointed out that the Switch 2 has plenty of RAM, which has simplified that port. The Series S has stricter limits, but those are tackled without impacting other versions. Nintendo’s game key-card system also avoids pressure to cut down file sizes for physical media.
A separate porting unit handles all platform-specific work in parallel with the main team. This setup keeps the core developers focused on completing and polishing the game. Hamaguchi confirmed the title is already playable end-to-end and is now in the final refinement stage.
With Remake Intergrade already on multiple platforms and Rebirth heading to more systems this year, the trilogy continues to expand its audience. Based on Hamaguchi’s statements, the finale should deliver the same impressive visuals fans expect, regardless of the chosen platform.
