There are many amazing new features included, including Gemini AI and more.

In this article, I report on the new features of the Google Pixel 9 Series that I gathered from their recent live event, especially focusing on their new AI features, full specifications, and pricing of the new Pixel 9 series.
Pixel Weather app
The devices features Pixel Weather app that is looks seriously awesome and accurate to provide personalized and insightful weather reports. This feature, known as “AI Weather Reports,” is powered by Google’s Gemini Nano technology. It offers a more intuitive and engaging weather experience compared to traditional weather apps.
Instead of simply displaying numerical data, the AI Weather Reports provide concise and informative summaries about the day’s weather. For example, it might suggest wearing sunscreen on a hot day or advise bringing an umbrella for rainy conditions. These AI-generated reports are designed to help users understand the weather more easily and make informed decisions about their day.
The app also features a precipitation map that displays real-time rainfall or snowfall forecasts for the next few hours. This allows users to see a visual representation of the weather conditions in their area and plan accordingly.
Pixel Screenshots
The Pixel 9 series introduces a new AI-powered feature called “Pixel Screenshots” that allows you to search and retrieve information from your screenshots. It’s similar to Microsoft’s “Recall” feature, but with a key difference: Pixel Screenshots only analyzes the content of screenshots you manually take, not everything on your device.
Here’s how it works
- Cataloging: When you take a screenshot, Pixel Screenshots uses Google’s on-device Gemini Nano AI model to analyze the image’s content and extract relevant information. This includes text, objects, and even web links if present in the screenshot.
- Organization: You can organize your screenshots into collections, such as “Gift Ideas,” “Recipes,” or “Travel Plans.” This allows you to easily find related screenshots later.
- Retrieval: You can search through your screenshots using keywords. For example, if you took a screenshot of a product you want to buy, you can search for “price” or “product name” to find that specific screenshot.
Pixel Screenshots can also provide information about the contents of an image. For instance, if you screenshotted a sandal and want to know its price, you can search for “sandal price,” and Pixel Screenshots will extract the price information from your screenshot.
In essence, Pixel Screenshots acts as a searchable library for your screenshots, making it easier to find and utilize the information captured in those images. It’s a practical and convenient way to manage and access information from your screenshots, especially for tasks like shopping, research, or planning.
This feature is particularly useful for:

There’s also a new app called Pixel Studio that uses generative AI to turn your text prompts into illustrations, though it doesn’t run on-device.
Pixel Studio is a new AI-powered image generation app that comes pre-installed on all Pixel 9 devices. It allows users to create and modify images using simple text prompts.
Think of it as a creative canvas where you can bring your ideas to life from scratch, right on your phone. Pixel Studio is powered by Google’s Imagen 3 text-to-image model, which is also used in Google’s other AI image generation tools.
Here’s how it works
- Text Prompts: You simply type in a description of the image you want to create, and Pixel Studio will generate it based on your prompt. For example, you could type “a sunset over the ocean with a sailboat” and Pixel Studio would create an image that matches your description.
- Editing: Once the image is generated, you can use Pixel Studio’s editing tools to refine it. You can add or remove elements, change the visual style, or tweak the overall mood of the image.
- Personalization: Pixel Studio also allows you to add interactive details and virtual stickers to your images, making them more personalized and engaging.

Additionally, the Pixel 9 series marks a significant step for Android phones in the US, as they are the first to offer Satellite SOS, a crucial safety feature that enables users to connect with emergency services even when outside of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
This feature is particularly valuable for individuals who frequently travel to remote areas, engage in outdoor activities, or live in regions with limited cellular infrastructure.
Here’s how Satellite SOS works:
- Connecting to Satellites: The Pixel 9 series utilizes a network of low-earth orbit satellites to establish communication when cellular service is unavailable.
- Emergency SOS: In an emergency situation, users can activate Satellite SOS by pressing and holding the power button. [1][2] This will send a distress signal to emergency services, along with the user’s location.
- Sharing Location: Users can also choose to share their location with designated contacts, providing them with peace of mind and allowing them to monitor the user’s situation.
Google has partnered with Skylo, a non-terrestrial network (NTN) operator, to enable this satellite connectivity. The Pixel 9’s Tensor G4 chip supports the necessary 3GPP Release 17 standards for satellite communication.
While Google has not explicitly stated whether voice calls are possible via satellite, it’s likely that the initial implementation will resemble Apple’s approach, which allows for location sharing and text-based communication.
