The wait is almost over for GTA fans, as Rockstar Games is set to unveil Grand Theft Auto 6 this week and drop a trailer in December.
Rockstar Games, the developer of the popular Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series, has confirmed that it will announce the highly anticipated GTA 6 this week, followed by a trailer release in December, according to a Bloomberg report.
The announcement will coincide with the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games, which was founded in 1998 by Sam Houser and his brother Dan. The company is known for its critically acclaimed and commercially successful games, such as Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne, and L.A. Noire, in addition to GTA.
GTA 6 will be the first main entry in the GTA series since GTA 5, which was released in 2013 and has sold more than 185 million copies, making it the second-best selling video game of all time, behind Minecraft. GTA 5 is also the most profitable entertainment product ever, generating over $6 billion in revenue.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for GTA 6, which is expected to be one of the most significant entertainment releases of the decade. The game is set in a fictional version of Miami and features two protagonists, a man and a woman, who are influenced by the bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde, Bloomberg News has reported. The game will also have a playable female protagonist for the first time in the GTA series, reflecting a change in the company’s culture and creative direction.
Rockstar Games has spent the last few years working to clean up its corporate culture and work-life balance after employees complained of burnout and crunch during the making of its previous games. The company has also removed transphobic jokes from the latest console release of GTA 5 and has been cautious not to make jokes about marginalized groups, unlike previous games.
The official announcement of GTA 6 will be made on the company’s website and social media channels this week, followed by a trailer release in December, which will showcase the game’s graphics, gameplay, and story. The game’s release date is still unknown, but Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., the parent company of Rockstar Games, has guided toward a jump in fiscal 2025 sales, suggesting that GTA 6 might launch in that period.
