Honor is preparing to launch its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Honor Magic 6, which will be one of the first devices to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The company has teased some of the features of the upcoming phone at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2023, such as eye-tracking interaction, on-device AI, and a virtual assistant. Here is everything we know so far about the Honor Magic 6.
Release date and price
Honor has not announced a specific release date for the Honor Magic 6 yet, but it is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2024, following the trend of its previous models. The Honor Magic 5 and Honor Magic 5 Pro were unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona in February.
The price of the Honor Magic 6 is also unknown, but it is likely to be similar to or slightly higher than the Honor Magic 5 series, which started at €899 for the base model and €1,199 for the Pro variant. There is also a possibility of a Magic 6 Ultimate edition, which may be exclusive to China and cost around ¥6,699 (around £780/$975).
Specifications and features
The Honor Magic 6 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which is Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful processor for smartphones. The chipset boasts a 20% improvement in CPU performance and a 30% improvement in GPU performance over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It also supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The Main highlight of Honor Magic 6 will feature an eye-tracking interaction feature called Magic Capsule, which will allow users to open apps or engage with content on the phone by looking at the right spot on the screen. This feature is similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island and will use eye-tracking technology to detect where the user is looking.
Another highlight of the Honor Magic 6 will be its on-device AI capabilities, powered by a large language model (LLM) containing seven billion parameters. The phone will come with a virtual assistant called Yoyo, which will use Qualcomm’s on-device AI to create videos from photos and videos stored on the phone based on voice commands. Users will be able to customize the templates, themes, and music of these videos with additional prompts.
The camera specifications of the Honor Magic 6 are still a mystery, but some rumors suggest that it will have an upgraded 50-megapixel primary camera and a cutting-edge 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. The phone may also have a quad-curved OLED display with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.
The Honor Magic 6 is expected to run on Android 14 with Honor’s own Magic UI skin on top. The phone may also support fast charging, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Conclusion
The Honor Magic 6 is shaping up to be a powerful and innovative flagship smartphone that will compete with the other brands. The phone will showcase some of the latest technologies from Qualcomm and Honor, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, eye-tracking interaction, and on-device AI. The phone is likely to launch in early 2024 with a premium price tag.
