After months of negotiations, Apple announced that its products will finally be available in Indonesia, with the iPhone 16 arriving on April 11, 2025. Reports indicate Indonesia lifted the ban following Apple’s investment plan exceeding $300 million.

Apple iPhone 16 to be Available in Indonesia in April
Apple brought good news to Indonesian iPhone fans when the iPhone 16 lineup passed the region’s telecommunications equipment certification in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
“Today, Apple announces that all iPhone 16 series… will be available starting from Friday, April 11,”
the company said in a statement.
To recap, a disagreement between Indonesian authorities and Apple in October 2024 led to a ban on the iPhone 16 because Apple had not met the required investment plan. However, the dispute was resolved, and Apple received a local component content certification from the Ministry of Industry, exceeding the 35 percent requirement with a 40 percent rate.
Apple will initially produce AirTags in a new Batam Island facility (20% of global production), operated by Luxshare Precision Industry. Further accessory production is planned for Bandung. The company will also invest in tech education, but currently has no plans for iPhone manufacturing in Indonesia, making it unique among regional phone sellers.
Furthermore, Apple has committed to training local talent in research and development, enabling the creation of locally developed products and services. This was a key requirement of the Indonesian government, which Apple has now agreed to meet by establishing research and development facilities in the region.
