Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro is expected to retain a centered front camera housed within a smaller Dynamic Island, according to the latest reports, walking back earlier claims that suggested a major change to the phone’s front-facing design.

The iPhone 18 series is currently tipped to launch in November 2026. Earlier reports circulating online had claimed that Apple planned to move the front camera to the top-left corner of the display. Those claims now appear to have stemmed from mistranslations, according to people familiar with the matter.
More recent information indicates that Apple is working on a redesigned under-display cut-out system for the front-facing camera and Face ID hardware. Under this setup, only the flood illuminator, an essential part of Apple’s 3D facial recognition system, would be moved to the left side and positioned beneath the display, while the main camera and the remaining sensors would stay centered.

A new report shared on Weibo by Tech Circle adds further detail, suggesting Apple may revise the entire 3D structured light assembly rather than repositioning it. The report says the pill-shaped light sensor used for Face ID will become smaller but will not move to the left side of the screen, contradicting earlier leaks that pointed to an off-center layout.
If the report is correct, the move would let Apple reduce the size of the Dynamic Island without shifting it from the center, pointing to a gradual design update rather than a major overhaul. Apple has not responded to the claims, and the final design could still change before the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to launch later this year.
