If you are looking for a smartphone that offers a large display, a long-lasting battery, and a decent performance at an affordable price, you might want to check out the itel A70. This is a new entry-level device from itel that was launched in October 2023. In this review, I will go over the main features and specifications of the itel A70 and give you my opinion on whether it is worth buying or not.
Design and Display
The itel A70 has a slim and lightweight design that measures 8.6mm in thickness and weighs around 180 grams. It has a plastic body with a glossy finish and a camera module that resembles the S23+. It comes in four color options: Brilliant Gold, Starlish Black, Field Green, and Azure Blue. The itel A70 has a fingerprint scanner on the side and a USB-C port at the bottom. It also has a dedicated microSD card slot that supports up to 2TB of external storage.
The itel A70 features a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display has a notch at the top that houses the selfie camera and a chin at the bottom that bears the itel logo. The display has a peak brightness of 500 nits and a 120Hz touch sampling rate. The display quality is decent for the price, but not very sharp or vibrant. The display also has a Dynamic Bar feature that allows you to access frequently used apps and settings from the edge of the screen.
Performance and Software
The itel A70 is powered by a Unisoc T603 octa-core processor that clocks at 1.8GHz. This is a low-end chipset that can handle basic tasks and light gaming, but not very demanding applications or multitasking. The itel A70 comes with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
The itel A70 also has a virtual RAM feature that can extend the RAM by 5GB or 8GB depending on the variant. This feature is supposed to improve the performance and speed of the device, but I did not notice any significant difference in my usage.
The itel A70 runs on Android 13 Go edition, which is a stripped-down version of Android that is optimized for low-end devices. The itel A70 has a clean and simple user interface with minimal bloatware and pre-installed apps. The itel A70 also has some useful features such as Face Unlock, Smart Gestures, and DTS Sound. The itel A70 supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and USB OTG connectivity.
Camera and Battery
The itel A70 has a dual-camera setup on the back that consists of a 13MP main camera and an AI lens. The main camera can take decent photos in good lighting conditions, but struggles in low-light or indoor scenarios. The AI lens is supposed to enhance the photos with scene detection and beautification, but I did not find it very effective or accurate. The itel A70 also has an LED flash on the back that can help in dark situations. The itel A70 can record videos up to 1080p resolution at 30fps, but the quality is not very impressive.
The itel A70 has an 8MP selfie camera on the front that can take acceptable selfies in daylight, but not very flattering in artificial or dim lighting. The selfie camera also has a beauty mode that can smooth out the skin and adjust the facial features, but it can look unnatural and overdone. The selfie camera can also record videos up to 720p resolution at 30fps, but the quality is mediocre.
The itel A70 has a non-removable 5000mAh battery that can last for a whole day of moderate usage or up to two days of light usage. The itel A70 supports 10W charging via the USB-C port, but it does not come with a fast charger in the box. It takes around 3 hours to fully charge the itel A70 from 0 to 100%.
Conclusion
The itel A70 is a budget-friendly smartphone that offers a big screen and a big battery, but compromises on the performance and the camera quality. The itel A70 is suitable for casual users who want a basic smartphone for browsing, social media, and entertainment, but not for power users who want a smooth and fast experience. The itel A70 is priced at Php 2,678 for the 3GB/128GB variant and Php 3,999 for the 4GB/128GB variant in the Philippines, which is quite competitive for the features it offers.
The itel A70 is now available on shopee and lazada.
