Marvel Cosmic Invasion, the arcade-style side-scrolling beat ’em up from publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games, is now available worldwide on Steam (PC), Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S – including day-one access on Game Pass – the companies announced today alongside the game’s official launch trailer.

Gameplay, Star Roster, and Retro Flair Power the Galaxy-Saving Brawl

Building on the success of their hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, the studio pairs classic 16-bit pixel art with modern gameplay mechanics, putting players in control of Earth’s mightiest heroes and cosmic warriors to fend off Annihilus’ devastating “Annihilation Wave” – an unprecedented attack threatening all life in the galaxy.

At the heart of the game is the “Cosmic Swap” system, allowing players to select two heroes per level and switch between them instantly to chain unique combos and unleash powerful special attacks. Up to 4 players can join forces in local or online drop-in co-op, with adaptive difficulty that scales to the size of the group.

The game offers two modes: a story-driven campaign accessible to all skill levels, and an arcade mode with unlockable modifiers for a steeper challenge. Experimenting with different hero duos also unlocks power-ups and rewards, encouraging strategic play.

Players can choose from 15 playable characters, blending iconic Earth-born heroes like Captain America, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Black Panther with cosmic powerhouses such as Silver Surfer, Nova, and Cosmic Ghost Rider. The final two launch additions – Phoenix (Jean Grey) and Invincible Iron Man – bring fiery telekinesis and jet-powered firepower to the lineup.

Standing in their way is Annihilus and his allies, including Thanos, M.O.D.O.K., Taskmaster, and Knull. The game features a renowned voice cast, with Brian Bloom (Captain America, Silver Surfer), Steve Blum (Venom, Beta Ray Bill), Cal Dodd (Wolverine), and Matt Mercer (Nova, Annihilus) bringing the characters to life.

Tribute Games’ signature pixel art style pays homage to classic Marvel designs, with lush animations that update the arcade era aesthetic for modern platforms. The original soundtrack, composed by Tee Lopes (TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge), delivers high-energy beats tailored to the game’s fast-paced brawls.

A free PC demo, featuring 9 heroes and 2 levels (New York City and the Helicarrier), is still available on Steam for players to try before buying. To celebrate the launch, Marvel Comics will release 12 Cosmic Invasion variant covers for ongoing titles in January and February 2026, showcasing the game’s retro character designs.
