The “Windows Phone” Returns (Sort Of)

After years of concept renders, a phone that runs full Windows is finally hitting the market. The NexPhone is a 6.58-inch rugged handset designed to bridge the gap between mobile and desktop computing. Unlike standard smartphones, this device supports triple-boot functionality out of the box, allowing users to switch between Android 16, Debian Linux, and Windows 11.

According to early hands-on details from tech reviewer JuanBagnell on Youtube, the Windows 11 mode isn’t just a stock desktop cramped onto a small screen. NexDock has developed a custom shell that mimics the classic Windows Phone Start Screen, featuring the tile-based interface that many users still miss.

Specs: Built for Utility, Not Speed

  • Cameras: 64MP Main, 13MP Ultra-Wide, 10MP Selfie

Pricing and Availability

The NexPhone is positioned as a mid-range device with a price tag of $549. NexDock has opened a reservation queue on their official website.

The brand is using a deposit model: early adopters can pay $199 now to secure their unit, with the remaining balance due upon shipping. This pricing strategy places it in almost competition with the Redmi Note 15 series. This pricing strategy places it in near-direct competition with the Redmi Note 15 Pro series.

While the specs are modest, specifically the 18W charging and older Gorilla Glass 3, the appeal lies in the software. For IT professionals and Linux enthusiasts, having a pocketable device that runs full desktop operating systems via USB-C display out could replace the need to carry a laptop for light tasks.

What do you think? Is the return of a “Windows Phone” interface enough to make you switch from a standard Android or iPhone? Let us know in the comments.
