The successor of Nintendo Switch has been revealed as Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement, made via Nintendo America’s official YouTube channel, revealed a slightly larger console than its predecessor, featuring redesigned Joy-Cons with bigger SL and SR buttons. A new dock and a separate controller grip, similar to the original Switch’s design, also accompany the system.

The Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch LCD display with noticeably thinner bezels than its predecessor. The Joy-Cons have undergone a redesign, featuring a more streamlined attachment mechanism to the console itself. A new button is situated beneath the home button on the right Joy-Con, and additional rear triggers flank the existing L/R buttons. Both Joy-Cons are presented in a sleek black, accented with color.

Further enhancements include strategically placed cooling vents, a headphone jack, and a second USB-C port on the right side of the console. The kickstand has also been redesigned, adopting a U-shaped frame for wider-angle support.

Nintendo demonstrated the console’s capabilities with a new Mario Kart, hinting at strong backward compatibility. While many existing Switch games will be playable on the Switch 2, Nintendo acknowledges that not all titles will be compatible, leaving some uncertainty about the full extent of backward compatibility.
