OnePlus is known for its innovative and cutting-edge smartphones, and the company is not slowing down anytime soon. After launching the OnePlus Open, its first foldable device, yesterday, OnePlus has now teased a new breakthrough in display technology. The Chinese brand, in collaboration with Oppo and BOE, will introduce a new smartphone display on October 24 that promises to deliver unprecedented brightness levels.
According to a post on Weibo by OnePlus and BOE, the new display will be unveiled at an event in Chongqing, China. The post also hints at “a new dawn” for Chinese screens, suggesting that the display will be a game-changer in the industry. The display is expected to come in two variants: a 1440p panel with a whopping 3,000 nits of brightness, and a 1220p panel that will surpass even that.
To put this into perspective, the OnePlus Open has a peak brightness of 2,800 nits, which is already impressive compared to most competitors. The new display will also support 2160 Hz PWM dimming, which is a significant improvement from the current 1440 Hz panels. This means that the display will have less flickering and smoother transitions when adjusting the brightness. Additionally, the new display will support Single Pulse DC, which is a technology that reduces eye strain by eliminating low-frequency flicker.
The timing of this announcement coincides with Qualcomm’s unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the next-generation flagship chipset for Android devices. This raises the possibility that the OnePlus 12 might feature both the new chipset and the new BOE display, making it one of the most powerful and advanced smartphones in the market.
OnePlus and BOE have not revealed any other details about the new display, such as its size, refresh rate, or aspect ratio. However, based on the teaser image, it seems that the display will have curved edges and minimal bezels. We will have to wait until October 24 to find out more about this exciting new development in smartphone display technology. Stay tuned for more updates.
