Qualcomm has unveiled its new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, which promises to deliver better performance and efficiency than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The new chipset is designed for high-end smartphones that offer premium features such as AI and advanced camera capabilities.
Performance
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 boasts a 15% faster CPU and a 50% more powerful GPU than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, according to Qualcomm. The CPU is based on the Kryo 670 architecture, which features four Cortex-A78 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU is the Adreno 720, which supports HDR10+ and 10-bit color depth. The chipset also supports up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
Connectivity
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also comes with a range of connectivity and multimedia features, such as the Snapdragon X63 5G modem, which supports sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The chipset also features the Spectra 570L ISP, which can handle up to three 25 MP cameras simultaneously, or a single 192 MP camera. The chipset also supports 4K video recording and playback at 60 fps, and 8K video playback at 30 fps.
AI Engine
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also integrates the Hexagon 770 DSP, which enables AI and machine learning applications on the device. The chipset supports the Qualcomm AI Engine, which can deliver up to 4 TOPS of AI performance. The chipset also supports the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which can process low-power voice and sensor data.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is expected to power the next generation of high-end smartphones from various OEMs, such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, and Motorola. Qualcomm claims that the new chipset will offer a superior user experience, with faster performance, longer battery life, and enhanced features. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is expected to be available in devices starting from the first quarter of 2024.
