Toronto Raptors guard/forward RJ Barrett is targeting a return to the court after receiving a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for a persistent knee injury that has kept him out of recent games. However, the team says he could be sidelined for at least another week.
The 23-year-old has been dealing with right knee soreness that forced him to miss multiple contests, prompting the medical staff to opt for the PRP treatment – a common procedure that uses a patient’s own blood components to accelerate healing of soft tissue injuries.
Barrett, who was acquired by the Raptors in a trade with the New York Knicks in 2023, has been a key contributor this season, averaging double-digit points while providing length and athleticism on both ends of the floor. The team has not set a specific timeline for his return but noted he is progressing well and will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks as he ramps up his on-court activities.
Raptors head coach Darko Rajaković spoke about Barrett in a recent post-game interview after a home loss against the Boston Celtics, and in doing so, acknowledged his importance to the team: “we all know who RJ is and what he brings to the table for us. He’s a very important player for us offensively.”
The Raptors, who are battling for position in the Eastern Conference standings, have relied on depth in Barrett’s absence, but his return would provide a significant boost as the team heads into the stretch run of the regular season.
