Let’s dive into the upcoming Samsung flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung is sticking with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for this series, but with a twist. This time, the focus is on GPU energy efficiency, not raw CPU power.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be unveiled at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in October. While the CPU improvements are said to be in the single-digit percentage range, the GPU gains are significant. Leaked information suggests the GPU performance is comparable to the MediaTek Dimensity 9300, but with half the power consumption.

Looking at the internal testing data of 8G4, the CPU efficiency improvement is in the single digit percentage, but the GPU improvement is huge, D9300 peak at half the power is possible. If you care about CPU performance, please skip this generation and wait for 8G5. pic.twitter.com/6Le8FlN0M9

However, this focus on efficiency might come at a cost for gamers and heavy users. The overall GPU performance increase compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is only in the single digits. So, if you’re a hardcore gamer, you might want to hold off on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and wait for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Despite the GPU performance trade-off, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series is still likely to be a hit. The focus on photography, a key feature for many Galaxy users, will likely remain a strong selling point. Plus, the switch to TSMC’s manufacturing process for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 promises better energy consumption, which is a win for most consumers.

So, while the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra chipset might not be the best choice for gamers, it’s still shaping up to be a solid flagship offering for those who prioritize photography and battery life.
