Samsung is preparing to bring AirDrop compatibility to its upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup, marking a notable shift in how files can be shared across devices. The update was revealed by Choi Won-joon, President and COO of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business Division, in a report published by EBN News.

“We plan to support AirDrop compatibility starting with the Galaxy S26 series,” Choi said, adding that the feature “will be provided sequentially through software updates.”

AirDrop is a wireless file-sharing feature developed by Apple, designed for its ecosystem of iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. It allows users to quickly send photos, videos, and documents to nearby devices with a single tap, without relying on cables or third-party apps.

Samsung already offers its own sharing solution, Quick Share, across Galaxy devices. However, adding compatibility with AirDrop could significantly improve file transfers between Android and Apple users, which is something that has long been limited by ecosystem barriers.

Details on how the feature will work in practice remain unclear, including whether it will require both devices to install updates or support specific protocols. Samsung has also not confirmed when the rollout will expand beyond initial markets, with no timeline yet for regions like India or the Philippines.
