Samsung has launched the Galaxy XR, a mixed-reality headset designed to merge high-fidelity visuals, robust performance, and seamless Android integration. Priced at $1,799 (roughly ₱105,000), the device targets developers, enterprise users, and enthusiasts seeking a versatile XR (extended reality) platform.

The device features dual micro-OLED displays with a combined resolution of 3,552×3,840 pixels (27 megapixels), supporting refresh rates up to 90Hz. A 109° horizontal and 100° vertical field of view (FOV) aims to enhance immersion, while six tracking cameras enable precise inside-out motion tracking and hand recognition. Four dedicated eye-tracking cameras facilitate dynamic foveated rendering and iris-based authentication for security.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, the Galaxy XR claims a 20% CPU and 15% GPU performance boost over its predecessor. It includes 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a suite of sensors: a depth sensor, five inertial measurement units (IMUs), and a flicker sensor to reduce eye strain. Two 6.5MP front cameras support mixed-reality passthrough and 3D environment capture.

The device runs a customized Android-based OS, granting access to all Android apps and Google’s Gemini AI platform. Developers can utilize OpenXR, WebXR, and Unity frameworks for cross-platform content creation. Samsung emphasizes enterprise applications, such as virtual training and 3D modeling, alongside consumer-focused gaming and media experiences.
Weighing 545 grams (headset) and 302 grams (external battery), the Galaxy XR includes an adjustable IPD (54–70mm) and a removable light shield for user comfort. Battery life, however, remains a limitation at 2–2.5 hours under active use.
Preorders begin October 15 in key markets, including the U.S., South Korea, and Germany. Industry analysts note the device’s premium positioning against competitors like Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3 Pro.
