Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 Features
According to a recent leak, mid-range phones could receive a significant performance boost later this year with the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset.
The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 chipset already provided a substantial upgrade for mid-range devices last year, featuring the same CPU cores as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 from 2022. However, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 is expected to take things even further.
The leak suggests that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset will adopt the architecture of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful processor for flagship phones in 2024.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 boasts an octa-core CPU setup, including a Cortex-X4 big core, five Cortex-A720 medium cores, and two Cortex-A520 little cores. It is likely that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 will incorporate similar CPU cores.
It’s worth noting that last year’s Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 had lower CPU clock speeds and downgrades in the GPU, modem, and other areas compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 line.
Therefore, it is possible that the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset may also have some downgrades compared to its flagship counterpart.
The hope is that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chipset will see wider adoption than its predecessor, as the Gen 2 chipset was only found in a few devices from Xiaomi and Realme, none of which were available in the US.
