Nintendo has announced a new game for the Nintendo Switch that will bring back the classic side-scrolling platforming action of the Super Mario series. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to be released worldwide on October 20, 2023, and will feature a new power-up that will transform the world around Mario and his friends in unexpected ways.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first new 2D Super Mario game since New Super Mario Bros. U, which was released almost 11 years ago. The game will support both single-player and simultaneous multiplayer modes, and will allow players to choose from a variety of characters, including Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, and Nabbit. Each character will have their own abilities and movesets, such as wall jumps, ground pounds, flutter jumps, and tongue attacks.
The game’s main gimmick is the Wonder Flower, a power-up that will change the world around the characters in unique and strange ways. For example, the Wonder Flower can bring warp pipes to life and cause them to stretch upward, create giant bubbles that can be popped to reveal coins and items, turn enemies into friendly helpers or vice versa, and more. The Wonder Flower will also grant the characters new forms and abilities, such as an elephant-themed fruit that can shoot water from its trunk.
The game will feature a variety of levels and worlds to explore, each with their own themes and challenges. The game will also include badges that can be collected and equipped to enhance the characters’ performance or unlock new features. The game will have a dedicated Nintendo Direct on August 31, 2023, where more details and gameplay footage will be revealed.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is expected to be one of the most anticipated games of the year, as it promises to deliver a fresh and fun experience for fans of the Super Mario series. The game is already available for pre-order on the Nintendo Official Website, where players can also watch the trailer and learn more about the game. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
