Introducing the World’s First SanDisk 4TB microSDUC UHS-I Card and an 8TB SDUC UHS-I SD Card by Western Digital
In a tech landscape where gadgets with large storage capacities are a rarity, flagship devices typically offer up to 1TB of internal storage. However, for users requiring even more storage, the option of expandable storage like microSD cards becomes essential. Despite this, the market mostly offers microSD cards with capacities limited to 2TB of expandable storage.
With the demand for storage on the rise due to the increasing use of apps, videos, and photography, Western Digital has taken a significant step by introducing the world’s first SanDisk 4TB microSDUC UHS-I card and an 8TB SDUC UHS-I SD card, boasting a maximum speed of 100MB/s. Moreover, the company has unveiled a groundbreaking 16TB version of its SanDisk Desk Drive, currently in the proof-of-concept stage but potentially hitting the market soon.
As per report, the SanDisk 4TB microSDUC UHS-I card, when used in a Steam Deck, can accommodate a library of over 600 games with a 12GB file size. Similarly, the SanDisk 8TB SDUC UHS-I card, when paired with a top mirrorless camera, enables capturing approximately 165,000 raw files at 24MP.
Despite the impressive storage capacities, it’s worth noting that the cards come with UHS-I, which translates to slower transfer speeds compared to UHS-II rated microSDs. While users benefit from expanded storage space, they may experience a trade-off in transfer speed.
Furthermore, at the Future of Memory and Storage Conference in California, these two SanDisk cards have set a new standard for digital storage. Both cards adhere to the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard, theoretically capable of supporting up to 128TB storage capacity. Although pricing details are yet to be disclosed, it’s anticipated that these innovative cards will come with a premium price tag.
