Here’s what we know!
Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 14 Pro, which features a new display protection technology called Dragon Crystal Glass. This glass is said to be the hardest and most durable smartphone glass ever, surpassing the likes of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and Apple Ceramic Shield Glass.
What is Dragon Crystal Glass?
Dragon Crystal Glass is a type of protective glass developed by Xiaomi in collaboration with TCL. It is made with a combination of raw materials that are treated at high temperatures for 100 hours, resulting in the formation of nano-sized crystals within the glass. These crystals form an interlocking structure that gives the glass remarkable strength and scratch resistance.
According to Xiaomi, Dragon Crystal Glass has a Vickers hardness of 860 HV0.025, which is significantly higher than other popular display protection solutions. For comparison, Huawei Kunlun Glass 2 has a hardness of 830 HV0.025, Apple Ceramic Shield Glass has a hardness of 814 HV0.025, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has a hardness of 670 HV0.025.
Xiaomi claims that the Xiaomi 14 Pro display is up to 10 times more resistant to falls than conventional reinforced glass. The company has also released a video showing the strength and durability of Dragon Crystal Glass in various tests.
What else does the Xiaomi 14 Pro offer?
The Xiaomi 14 Pro is not only impressive in terms of display durability, but also in terms of performance and features. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is the first processor to use the 4nm process and support both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G bands.
The phone also boasts a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for an immersive viewing experience. The phone also has a quad-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and 50MP telephoto camera. The front-facing camera is a 32 MP selfie shooter.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with a 4880 mAh battery that supports 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The phone also has an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, NFC, and an IR blaster. The phone runs on Androi 14 with HyperOS on top.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro is priced at CNY4,999 ($684) for the base model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and CNY5,499 ($753) for the top model with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The phone is available in four colors: black, white, blue and titanium.
