Xiaomi, known for offering feature-packed smartphones at competitive prices, has been under scrutiny for the presence of ads in its user interface. Despite efforts to reduce bloatware, disabling ads on Xiaomi devices continues to be a challenge for users.
Xiaomi Bloatware and Ads
In a recent statement, Xiaomi acknowledged the issue, stating,
“We are re-optimizing our business strategy to enhance the user experience by minimizing pre-installed apps and content display entry pages. Users can expect to see these improvements in our upcoming flagship devices.” –Xiaomi
“We aren’t currently planning to add a toggle that realistically, only a small number of users would discover and use.” –Xiaomi
However, the company clarified that they do not plan to introduce a single toggle solution to disable ads, citing concerns that only a small number of users would benefit from such a feature.
Currently, users are required to manually disable ads by navigating to the MSA (MIUI System Ads) app in settings and adjusting settings individually in apps like File Manager, Music, and Downloads. This cumbersome and multi-step process has been criticized for being less user-friendly compared to a simpler toggle option.
Xiaomi’s stance on the issue has sparked mixed reactions among users, with some applauding the company’s efforts to reduce bloatware while others express frustration over the persistent presence of ads. As the smartphone market continues to evolve, the balance between monetization strategies and user experience remains a key challenge for manufacturers like Xiaomi.
