Fans of the Mushroom Kingdom are heading to the stars slightly ahead of schedule. Originally slated for April 3, Nintendo and Illumination have officially moved the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie up to April 1, 2026. While a launch on April Fools’ Day might seem like a prank, the studios confirmed the two-day jump is permanent for both the U.S. and global theatrical markets.

The update follows a series of reveals from the official Super Mario Galaxy page on X, which has been building hype for the massive scale of this cosmic sequel. The biggest reveal so far? Yoshi is officially joining the cast. After the brief teaser in the 2023 blockbuster’s post-credits scene, the iconic green dinosaur is confirmed to play a central role in Mario’s latest mission through the stars.
The sequel isn’t just bringing back the original crew; it’s leaning heavily into star power for its new characters.
- Brie Larson will voice Rosalina, the ethereal protector of the stars.
- Benny Safdie (known for Oppenheimer and Uncut Gems) takes on the role of Bowser Jr., who is expected to be a primary antagonist.
Returning to the recording booth are Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), and Jack Black, who returns as a more complex version of Bowser.
Moving the action into deep space, the plot follows Mario and his friends as they navigate various planets across the universe. The stakes are personal this time around: the story reportedly focuses on the group facing off against Bowser Jr. while the elder Bowser returns, still “working through his demons” following his defeat in the first film. Expect plenty of planetary exploration that mirrors the gravity-defying mechanics of the original Wii games.
Local fans in the Philippines have been tracking this release since late last year. Robinsons Movieworld first teased the movie’s arrival on their official Facebook page back in November 2025, confirming that the galaxy-hopping sequel will be a staple of their 2026 lineup.
With the animation reportedly finished and the film now in post-production, the countdown to April 1 is officially on.
