OnePlus may be preparing to enter the gaming handheld market, according to new information shared on Weibo by known tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS). The leak offers an early look at what is said to be the company’s first dedicated gaming device, hinting at a different approach compared to existing handheld consoles.

Based on the shared image and details, the device features a squarish design, setting it apart from the more ergonomic, curved builds commonly seen in handheld gaming systems. Interestingly, the prototype also appears to include a rear camera, suggesting that OnePlus could be blending smartphone elements into the handheld experience.

In a follow-up explanation, the tipster noted that the device is part of a broader push by a mobile phone manufacturer into what is described as an “Android handheld console.” Unlike traditional setups that rely heavily on physical buttons and joysticks, this device is said to focus on interaction methods tailored for FPS (first-person shooter) games.

Text post from "Digital Chat Station" confirming a new Android handheld console, detailing its unique FPS-focused interaction solution, inclusion of mobile phone features like multi-finger touch responsiveness, flagship performance, and ultra-high refresh rates, comparing it to "Frankenstein's monster" but calling it a breakthrough in the performance race.

The reported control system incorporates mobile-style multi-finger touch input, which could offer more flexibility in titles like PUBG Mobile and Delta Force. This hybrid approach is also expected to leverage flagship-level performance tuning and ultra-high refresh rate displays, features typically found in premium smartphones.

The tipster described the concept as somewhat unconventional, likening it to a “Frankenstein’s monster,” but emphasized its potential as a new direction in mobile gaming performance.

Additional details from another Weibo source, The panda is bald, suggest that the device could feature an 8-inch display and be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. While specifics about the exact processor remain unclear, this points toward a focus on high-performance mobile gaming.

As of now, OnePlus has not officially confirmed the existence of the gaming handheld. However, if the reports prove accurate, the device could signal a new category for the brand, bridging the gap between smartphones and dedicated gaming consoles.

More details are expected to emerge in the coming months as leaks continue to surface.
