New leaks surrounding MediaTek’s upcoming flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9600, suggest the company could be preparing one of its biggest performance jumps yet for Android smartphones.
According to posts shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Dimensity 9600 is rumored to adopt a brand-new 2+3+3 CPU architecture along with a dual ultra-core design for the first time in the Dimensity lineup.
The leak also claims the chipset may reach clock speeds close to 5GHz, which would be a massive jump compared to current Android flagship chips.
Another big change could be the move to TSMC’s N2P 2nm process. The newer manufacturing process is expected to improve both performance and power efficiency, potentially helping devices run cooler while handling demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, and AI processing.
Early information also points to a major improvement in multi-core performance. The Dimensity 9600 is rumored to deliver performance levels comparable to Apple’s chips in heavy workloads, something Android chipsets have been trying to close the gap on for years.
If the leak turns out to be accurate, Android flagship phones launching in 2026 could see a noticeable leap in raw performance and efficiency. Some tipsters on X also claim that 2026 Android flagships could potentially match MacBook-level processing power.
MediaTek has not officially announced the Dimensity 9600 yet, and the leaked specifications should still be treated as unofficial for now.
