If today’s New York Times Connections grid has you feeling stuck, you are not alone. Puzzle #1234 brings some clever word groups that might not be obvious right away. Here is what you need to know.

Here are helpful hints to guide you through today’s puzzle, with the full answers listed further down.

    Today’s Connections Strategy & Commentary

Today’s puzzle covers terms meaning to mess with something, parts of the human ear, words before “bell”, and words that follow “bell”. The Yellow group features everyday verbs for interfering or tinkering with an item. Many players will recognize fiddle and tinker quickly, though meddle and trifle can take an extra moment to link together.

The Green category lists key anatomical parts of the ear. Canal and drum are familiar to most people, while anvil and stirrup may feel less obvious to casual players. The Blue set includes four words that precede “bell” to form well‑known phrases.

The Purple group is the hardest of the four. Each entry comes right after “bell” to create a common term or name, so it is easy to overlook the link at first glance.
