OnePlus is reportedly working with BOE on a custom display for the OnePlus 16 that could surpass Samsung’s current top-tier panels, according to a new post from tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo.
The tipster claims the two companies jointly developed an X4 luminescent material exclusively for OnePlus. Internal testing reportedly shows this new material outperforms Samsung’s M-series luminescent material in almost every aspect.
The display is said to offer ultra-low power consumption, double the lifespan of previous panels, and extremely narrow bezels on all four sides. He also added that some top-tier performance technologies will be implemented in the OnePlus 16 as well, making it a high-end domestic screen worth watching for.
On the other hand, the OnePlus 16 has recently appeared in network certification listings in China. The certification confirms support for the N79 5G band and lines up with a steady stream of leaks pointing to a top-tier spec sheet built around Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro processor.
Additionally, SRRC certification from China’s State Radio Regulatory Commission validates that all of the OnePlus 16’s wireless functions meet national safety and performance standards. These functions include 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. Combined with the prior network access approval, the device now only requires a final MIIT sales permit before it can be officially listed for retail. This final step typically takes two to three weeks after SRRC clearance.
OnePlus has not announced an official release date yet. Clearing these certifications means the phone should be unveiled very soon, though GSMArena points to a possible October launch, after Digital Chat Station revised an earlier September timeline.
