A new rumor is making the rounds about Sony’s next move in gaming, and this time it involves a possible handheld device to go with the PlayStation 6.

The latest information comes from tipster TCMFGames, who shared that Sony has reportedly begun early briefings with its first-party studios. According to the post, the company is preparing both a traditional home console and a separate handheld device as part of its next wave of hardware.
The PlayStation 6 is expected to follow the usual path as Sony’s main home console. Early pricing estimates suggest it could launch at around 700 dollars or higher, reflecting rising hardware costs. There are also claims that the current PlayStation 5 lineup may see price adjustments, with the base model possibly moving up to 599 dollars. The PS5 Pro, if still available by that time, could be discontinued once the PS6 arrives, similar to how Sony handled previous console transitions.
The handheld, on the other hand, is being described as a dedicated portable system. Unlike the PS6, it is designed primarily for gaming on the go. Reports say it could support a wide range of titles, including games from the PS4, PS5, and potentially the PS6. Developers are also believed to be working on low power modes for PS5 games, which may help them run more efficiently on portable hardware.
Another feature mentioned in the leak is support for docked play. The handheld could connect to a larger display and deliver improved performance when used at home, but it would still remain a separate device from the main PS6 console.

Earlier reports have already hinted at deeper development work behind the PlayStation 6. Sony Interactive Entertainment has been collaborating with AMD under Project Amethyst, a long-term partnership focused on advancing gaming technology. During a joint presentation, AMD executive Jack Huynh and PlayStation architect Mark Cerny highlighted features expected to shape the next console, including Neural Arrays, Radiance Cores, and Universal Compression.
Sony has not confirmed any of these details so far. As with most early leaks, plans could still change, but the idea of a new PlayStation handheld launching alongside the PS6 is already getting attention.
