Xiaomi 14 Ultra: A smartphone with under-display camera?

Xiaomi is known for its innovative and affordable smartphones, and the Xiaomi 14 series is no exception. But the company may have another surprise in store: the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. This phone has been seen in some leaked images, and it looks like it has a hidden camera under the screen. This could be a breakthrough in smartphone design, as it would eliminate the need for any cutouts or notches on the display.

    Under-Display Camera Technology

What is an under-display camera, and how does it work? According to GSMChina, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra may come in two variants: one with a normal selfie camera, and one with an under-display camera. The latter would use a special screen that can let light pass through to the camera sensor, while still showing the content on the screen. This way, the camera would be invisible to the user, and the screen would be uninterrupted. This would be a major improvement in smartphone aesthetics and user experience.

    Codenames and Geekbench Database

The normal selfie camera variant of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is reportedly codenamed “aurora” and “aurorapro,” while the under-display camera variant is codenamed “Xiaomi Suiren.” Interestingly, a device with the same name was recently spotted on Geekbench, a benchmarking platform that tests the performance of devices. The device had a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which is one of the most powerful chips available. This could mean that the device on Geekbench is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and not the Xiaomi Mix 5, which was also expected to have the same processor.

    Impressive Camera Setup

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is not only impressive in its front camera, but also in its rear cameras. According to Digital Chat Station, a reliable source of tech leaks, the phone will have a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYT 900 sensor and optical image stabilization. It will also have a variable aperture, which means it can adjust the amount of light that enters the camera. Besides the main camera, the phone will also have three more 50MP cameras: a telephoto camera, a periscope camera, and an ultra-wide camera.

    Possible Titanium Frame Upgrade

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra may also have a premium design, with a titanium frame instead of an aluminum frame. Titanium is a strong and lightweight metal that is often used in high-end products. It would make the phone more durable and elegant, and set it apart from the regular Xiaomi 14 Pro, which has an aluminum frame.

    Other Rumored Features

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra may also have some other exciting features, such as two-way satellite communication. This would enable the user to make calls and send messages without relying on cellular networks, which could be useful in remote areas or in emergencies. The phone may also have a large 5180mAh battery, which would support fast charging both wired and wireless. The phone could charge up to 90W with a cable, and up to 50W without a cable, making it convenient and quick to charge.

    Release Date:
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is expected to launch in April 2024, along with the Xiaomi Pad 7 series, which are tablets from Xiaomi. Many people are looking forward to the official announcement of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, as it could be one of the most advanced and innovative smartphones of the year.
