    PlayStation 5 Cloud Streaming

Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched a transformative update for its PlayStation Portal remote player, officially introducing cloud streaming capabilities for PlayStation 5 games. Available starting November 5 at 6 PM PT (November 6 at 2 AM GMT), the update empowers PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream thousands of digital PS5 titles directly from their libraries and the PlayStation Plus catalog, eliminating the need for a physical PS5 console connection.

    Cloud Streaming Goes Mainstream

Premium subscribers allows to access supported PS5 games via the cloud, including blockbuster titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, Resident Evil 4, and free-to-play hits such as Fortnite. Additionally, hundreds of games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog—including God of War Ragnarök, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered—are now streamable. A full list of compatible titles is available on PlayStation’s official website.

This major update unlocks unprecedented flexibility: gamers can play their library while another user operates the home PS5 console, stream on-the-go at locations like hotels or cafes, or enjoy seamless multiplayer sessions without interrupting household console use.

The PlayStation Portal’s user interface has been overhauled to prioritize accessibility. Three dedicated tabs now dominate the home screen:

    • Remote Play: Connect directly to a paired PS5 console (no PS Plus required).
    • Cloud Streaming: Instantly launch streamable games for Premium members.
    • Search: Quickly locate cloud-compatible titles. Missing entitlements prompt a QR code linking to the PlayStation Store.

    Enhanced Features for Immersive Gameplay

The update introduces several upgrades to elevate the Portal experience:

    • 3D Audio Support: Spatial sound is now available during both Remote Play and Cloud Streaming when using compatible devices like the Pulse Explore earbuds or Pulse Elite headset.
    • Passcode Lock: Added security via a customizable four-digit code.
    • Network Status Screen: Real-time connection metrics to troubleshoot streaming quality.
    • In-Game Store Access: Purchase add-ons, DLC, or currency without exiting a Cloud Streaming session.
    • Accessibility Options: Screen reader support and adjustable text size cater to diverse player needs.
    • Live Game Invitations: Accept multiplayer invites mid-stream via the Quick Menu.

The update addresses longstanding fan requests, particularly the ability to stream owned PS5 games remotely. Previously, Cloud Streaming was limited to titles within the PlayStation Plus catalog. Now, Premium members can dive into their personal libraries anywhere with a stable Wi-Fi connection, regardless of their PS5’s status.

“We’re thrilled to bring Cloud Streaming to PlayStation Portal,” said a Sony spokesperson. “This update, shaped by community feedback, redefines how players engage with their PS5 libraries.”

Sony reaffirmed its commitment to expanding PlayStation Portal’s capabilities, teasing future updates. For now, the focus remains on refining cloud performance and accessibility.

PlayStation Plus Premium members can activate the update today, while the PlayStation Portal retails at $199.99. As cloud gaming gains momentum, Sony’s latest move positions the Portal as a critical bridge between console and mobile play.

Note: Cloud Streaming requires a minimum internet speed of 15 Mbps. Regional availability of titles may vary. PlayStation Plus Premium membership sold separately.
