Qualcomm has officially launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, its latest flagship smartphone platform built on a 2nm process. The new chip features a custom Oryon CPU reaching up to 5.0GHz, faster Adreno graphics, upgraded on-device AI, and advanced camera and video capabilities.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is the company’s most powerful mobile platform yet, with improvements across CPU performance, gaming, AI, imaging, and connectivity. The first smartphone powered by the new chip is the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, which launched in China on September 23, 2026.

5GHz Oryon CPU Delivers Higher Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 uses Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU with two prime cores reaching speeds of up to 5.0GHz.

Qualcomm describes it as the world’s first mobile CPU to reach a 5GHz clock speed. Compared with the previous generation, the CPU delivers up to 13% higher performance while improving power efficiency by up to 37%.

The platform also introduces Adreno Neural Fusion, which uses AI to enhance graphics rendering and upscaling.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 features an upgraded Qualcomm Hexagon NPU designed for more demanding on-device AI workloads.

Qualcomm says the NPU is up to 35% faster and delivers up to 33% better performance per watt than the previous generation. The platform is also designed to run large AI models directly on the device, including models with more than 30 billion parameters.

For video, Qualcomm lists support for 8K recording at 60fps and 4K slow-motion recording at up to 240fps.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Is the First Phone With the Chip

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is the first smartphone to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Xiaomi launched the phone in China on September 23, one day after Qualcomm unveiled its new flagship platforms.

The Pro Max uses the Extreme variant, while the standard Xiaomi 18 Pro uses the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. This makes the Xiaomi 18 Pro series the first smartphone lineup to bring both new Snapdragon flagship platforms to market.

More Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Phones Are Coming

Qualcomm says devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will arrive from several major smartphone brands, including HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo, and Xiaomi.

Motorola has also announced its upcoming Signature 27, while other manufacturers are expected to reveal additional flagship devices using the new platform.
