I was browsing Weibo earlier today looking for more real-world usage details about the iPhone Duo, since the device is not yet available here in the Philippines. That is when I came across a hands-on video shared by Tech Xiao Chong that breaks down exactly how the iPhone Duo achieves its synchronized opening and closing animations.

He explained that the whole system works in a straightforward sequence. Sensors built into the hinge detect the opening angle as you move it. The device reads that angle instantly, whether it is 60 degrees, 90 degrees, or 120 degrees. That measurement directly controls how far the animation has progressed.

From there, both screens then adjust together, changing their position, scale, transparency, and how content is laid out to match exactly how far you have opened the phone. The GPU puts everything together right as it happens. This means the display moves smoothly the moment you start opening it, and it pauses perfectly the second you stop.

In short, the process goes like this. First, the device detects the exact angle of the hinge as you open or close it. Sensors then send real-time data to the system, which calculates how the two displays should align. Finally, the system controls the screen animation to match the movement, creating a smooth, connected transition between the two halves at every stage of the fold.

For those waiting to get the iPhone Duo here in the Philippines, the device starts at ₱159,990 for the 256GB model and goes up to 2TB of storage. It is expected to be available locally on October 30, 2026 as part of the global release.
