MediaTek on Thursday announced the Dimensity 9500s alongside the Dimensity 8500, a new sub-flagship mobile processor that closely mirrors the specifications of the earlier Dimensity 9400+, as the company continues to target the premium midrange smartphone segment.

A promotional graphic for the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset, with a dark gradient background and glowing accents. At the center is a visual of the chip displaying "MEDIATEK DIMENSITY 9500s" in metallic text. Surrounding the chip are five sections detailing key features:

The Dimensity 9500s is built using TSMC’s N3E 3nm-class manufacturing process and adopts an all-big-core CPU design. It is anchored by a Cortex-X925 prime core running at up to 3.73GHz, supported by three Cortex-X4 performance cores at 3.30GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.40GHz. MediaTek said the addition of a 12MB L3 cache and a 10MB system-level cache is intended to improve sustained performance while keeping power use in check.

Graphics duties are handled by a Mali-G925 Immortalis MC12 GPU running at 1,612MHz, paired with support for LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage with multi-circular queue technology, a combination aimed at faster data throughput and smoother gaming.

Key features of the Dimensity 9500s include:

    • TSMC N3E 3nm-class process
    • Cortex-X925 prime core up to 3.73GHz
    • Mali-G925 Immortalis MC12 GPU @ 1,612MHz
    • LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage with MCQ
    • 5G Release-17 modem with up to 7Gbps peak downlink
    • Wi-Fi 7 support with speeds of up to 6.5Gbps
    • Support for up to 320MP single camera sensors
    • 8K video recording at up to 60fps, including Dolby Vision
    • WQHD+ display support with refresh rates up to 180Hz
    • Updated NPU for on-device generative AI workloads

The processor integrates a 5G Release-17 modem with four-carrier aggregation and peak download speeds of up to 7Gbps. Connectivity options also include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. MediaTek said its UltraSave 4.0 power management technology and AI Network Suite 2.0 are designed to improve efficiency and maintain stable connections in challenging network conditions.

On the imaging side, the Dimensity 9500s supports single cameras of up to 320 megapixels and triple-camera setups using three 36-megapixel sensors at 30 frames per second. It also enables 18-bit RAW image capture and supports a wide range of video codecs for both decoding and encoding, including HEVC, AVC, VP9 and AV1.

Display support extends to WQHD+ panels with refresh rates of up to 180Hz, while tri-port MIPI support opens the door for more advanced foldable and multi-panel device designs.

For now, rumors point to the Redmi Turbo 5 Max as the first phone set to feature the Dimensity 9500s. If the leaks hold true, it would give Xiaomi an early lead with MediaTek’s latest chip, though more details are likely to surface as other brands finalize their plans.
