If today’s New York Times Connections grid has you burning through your mistakes, you are not alone. Puzzle #1149 features some heavy misdirection, with several words seemingly fitting into general objects or color themes before pulling the rug out from under you.

Below are strategic, spoiler-free hints to help you group today’s words on your own, followed by the exact categories and answers at the bottom of the page.

    Today’s Connections Strategy & Commentary

Watch out for the red herrings today. At first glance, words like Lane and Alley look like an obvious match for general roads, while Mint and Sage could easily be sorted into food or plant groups, but committing to those groups early will cost you lives.

We recommend looking closely at the exact phrasing of each category hint, and paying extra attention to the Purple group’s wordplay. Each item starts with a word that means to annoy someone. Separating literal meanings from hidden patterns will make the rest much easier to manage.

    Connections Hints Today: Category Clues

If you just need a nudge to get your brain moving in the right direction, here are clues for the four color-coded groups:

    • 🟨 Yellow Group Hint (Easiest): Terms for smaller, less frequently used paths.
    • 🟩 Green Group Hint (Medium): Words used to describe different tones of the color green.
    • 🟦 Blue Group Hint (Hard): Every word in this group has no vowels other than the letter Y.
    • 🟪 Purple Group Hint (Tricky): The first word of each two-word phrase is a synonym for “pester”.

Stuck on one word? If you have Bug Fix, try thinking of the first word on its own rather than the full phrase. It belongs to the trickier Purple group today!

⚠️Spoiler Warning: Beyond this point lies the full solution for Puzzle #1149. If you still want to solve the grid yourself using the clues above, do not scroll down.
