Nintendo has officially revealed Star Fox for the Nintendo Switch 2 during a dedicated Star Fox Direct presentation. The upcoming title launches worldwide on June 25, 2026, bringing a modern reimagining of the classic Star Fox 64 experience with upgraded visuals, new gameplay modes, online multiplayer support, and expanded Nintendo Switch 2 features. Pre-orders are now live with a suggested retail price of $49.99, roughly equivalent to ₱3,000.
According to Nintendo of America on X, the roughly 15-minute Star Fox Direct presentation is now available to watch on demand following its official broadcast announcement on their official Youtube channel. The presentation showcased gameplay footage, multiplayer features, and several enhancements designed specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
Set in the Lylat System, Star Fox follows Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team as they attempt to stop the villainous scientist Andross from taking control of the galaxy. Players will once again pilot the iconic Arwing fighter aircraft across multiple planets and space sectors while engaging in aerial combat missions, dogfights, and branching story routes.
Complete Visual and Gameplay Upgrade
Nintendo described the upcoming release as a cinematic reinterpretation of Star Fox 64, featuring rebuilt environments, redesigned characters, and fully voiced story sequences. The game also introduces enhanced mission briefings and expanded world details powered by the Nintendo Switch 2.
Locations returning from previous entries include:
- Corneria
- Zoness
- Fichina
- Sector Y
Each environment has been visually reworked with updated lighting, effects, and more detailed landscapes.
New and Returning Game Modes
The upcoming release includes several gameplay modes for solo and multiplayer experiences.
Campaign Mode
Players can explore multiple branching paths throughout the Lylat System. Missions, enemy encounters, and alternate routes can change depending on player performance and decisions during stages.
Difficulty settings include:
- Easy
- Normal
- Expert (unlockable)
Challenge Mode
Previously cleared stages can be replayed with additional objectives and new mission conditions not available in the main campaign.
Battle Mode
One of the largest additions is the new 4-vs-4 multiplayer Battle Mode supporting up to eight players. Teams are divided between Star Fox and Star Wolf factions across objective-based battles.
Battle scenarios include:
- Capturing zones on Corneria
- Collecting energy crystals on Fichina
- Recovering cargo from space pirates in Sector Y
Nintendo also confirmed support for online private matches and local multiplayer through GameShare functionality.
Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive Features
The game introduces several hardware-specific features for Nintendo Switch 2 users.
Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls
Players can switch between standard controls and mouse-style aiming using the new Joy-Con 2 controller functionality. Nintendo says the feature allows more precise targeting during aerial combat.
GameChat Integration
The title supports Nintendo’s new GameChat feature, allowing players to appear as animated Star Fox characters while communicating online. AR filters inspired by Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi are also included.
Star Fox Pre-Orders Now Available
Nintendo confirmed that Star Fox is now available for pre-order ahead of its June 25 release date. The title is priced at $49.99 and will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
The company expects the game to serve as one of the platform’s major first-party releases for summer 2026, combining classic gameplay with expanded multiplayer and modernized presentation features.
