Xiaomi confirmed through an official Weibo post that its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold will be the first smartphone in the world to launch with LPDDR6 RAM. Separately, reliable tipster Anvin shared details on X showing that Chinese memory manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies has made 16GB LPDDR6 modules capable of hitting peak speeds of 12,800 Mbps (12.8 Gbps). This progress puts CXMT in direct competition with the companies that have long led the global memory chip market.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold will also run on Xiaomi’s own Xring O3 processor, which has scored over 5.22 million points on the Antutu benchmark. LPDDR6 is the next generation of low-power memory, and the 12800Mbps speed is roughly 30 percent faster than the best LPDDR5X chips available today. This means apps open faster, switching between them feels smoother, games run better, and the phone uses power more efficiently. Those gains matter even more on a foldable device.

As we noted earlier, China’s CXMT is preparing for LPDDR6 mass production in the second half of 2026. That progress introduces real competition in a market that has long been controlled by just a few companies. More options mean better pricing and faster progress for everyone. It also shows how domestic semiconductor work has moved forward rapidly in recent years, with new suppliers ready to take on established names.

Xiaomi designing its own chip is part of a wider shift where companies want more control over their hardware and supply chain. The brand has confirmed the 18 Fold will launch in September though no exact date within the month has been announced. With LPDDR6 RAM and the Xring O3 processor confirmed, the device is already one of the most anticipated phones of the year.
