Earlier reports said Apple’s very first foldable iPhone would use an inward folding design that opens like a book, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line. Back then, word was that Apple’s main goal was to reduce or almost completely remove the visible crease on the main display. Rumors also mentioned a frame made of titanium alloy, plus Touch ID built right into the power button.

Now talks about this device are picking up again. Prototype photos and a full list of possible specs have popped up on Weibo. Well known tipster Digital Chat Station said the phone will likely run on Apple’s A20 chip, built using a 2 nanometer production process. Another Weibo source called Experience more backed this claim, and shared even more details about what the phone might have.

Here’s everything rumored specs about the upcoming iPhone Ultra (Tentative name) so far:

  • Outer display: 5.49 to 5.5 inches, 2088 × 1422 resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Inner foldable screen: 7.7 inches, 2713 × 1920 resolution, made with Ultra Thin Glass so the fold line is almost invisible

  • Storage options: 256GB, 512GB or 1TB
  • Battery: 5,400 to 5,800mAh

  • Thickness: 4.5mm when fully open, 9 to 9.5mm when closed

This new iPhone will go up against Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. Both phones have very similar screen sizes. The Samsung model is said to have a 7.6 inch inner AMOLED screen and a 5.4 inch outer AMOLED screen, both with 120Hz refresh rate.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is also expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a version made specially for Samsung’s foldable lineup. If these rumors turn out to be true, the competition between Apple and Samsung in the foldable phone market is going to get even more interesting.
