Vivo has officially announced its X500 series will launch in September in China, bringing three models to market and promising a major leap in smartphone videography. The lineup includes the standard X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max, with the company teasing five key upgrades across video, imaging, performance, display, and operating system.
The report came straight from Vivo product manager Han Boxiao in a post on Weibo. He said September is looking like one of the busiest times the phone industry has seen in years, with a flood of new models all dropping around the same time. He made it clear the X500 series is built to stand out in what will be a very crowded flagship race.
The X series has always been known as a pro imaging flagship, and Vivo says this generation is pushing mobile video into cinema grade quality. They put it simply. Photography is still a great option, but video is now the clear go to for anyone who takes their content seriously.
Long time followers might remember the X100 Ultra got the nickname “Thanos” from Chinese users thanks to its massive 200 megapixel telephoto camera. Han Boxiao playfully called the new lineup “Thanos 500,” making it clear this one keeps that same focus on top tier imaging.
The Pro models feature what Vivo calls the world’s first Zeiss Ultra Dynamic Main Camera, built in partnership with BluePrint and Sony. This new BluePrint Guangyu 900 sensor, also referred to as the Phantom 900, is rumored to be based on the Sony LYTIA-910 that was announced back in June 2026. It delivers an industry leading 17EV of dynamic range. Vivo says this performance matches professional cinema cameras. It brings the same clear look in backlit scenes that BluePrint sensors are known for in still photography, now applied to every frame of video.
Video capabilities get a substantial boost beyond dynamic range. The sensor supports 4K resolution at 240 frames per second for slow motion recording, plus 4K 120 frames per second HDR video that can be recorded and output directly. Vivo points out these are features usually reserved for dedicated gimbal cameras, and they will not all be available across every model in the X500 Pro series.
Stabilization also receives attention. The X500 Pro Max gets a 3 degree OIS wide angle stabilization system designed to deliver gimbal like smoothness, paired with CIPA 7.0 professional grade stabilization for even steadier footage. Han Boxiao teased that more details on the stabilization system will be shared tomorrow.
Separate earlier reports note the Vivo X500 has appeared on China’s 3C certification with 90W fast charging and several leaked specs. Details for the X500 Pro have also surfaced, pointing to a 6.37‑inch display, Dimensity 9600 Pro chip, and 7,000mAh battery.
With the launch window now locked in for September, Vivo appears ready to make a strong statement in the flagship imaging space just as competitors prepare their own major releases for the same busy period.
